Abbey Gear is a vivacious spirit with a passion for everything that nourishes the soul. Nearly three decades ago, she began her journey as a traditional hairdresser on the Gold Coast. But as the years passed, Abbey became disillusioned with an industry that often thrived on insecurities, vanity, and fleeting fashion trends. She witnessed the toll it took; people chasing appearances at the cost of their health, happiness, and self-worth, and she knew there had to be a better way.

Determined to rewrite the story, Abbey created Soul Sister Salon. This was not just a salon, but a movement: a holistic approach to beauty that honoured humanity, the earth, and the spirit. Drawing upon her many life roles: woman, mother, lover, healer, business owner, hairdresser, sister, and friend. Abbey wove together her professional skills and the wisdom gathered from countless courses and modalities. She offered something more profound than hairdressing: a space for restoration, empowerment, and self-celebration.

The seeds of this philosophy were planted long before, through her Hungarian Anya (grandmother), who passed down herbal knowledge, folk wisdom, and a belief in natural beauty. From chamomile rinses for blondes to coffee tones for brunettes, Abbey absorbed the lessons of nature and authenticity. These values would later rise within her conscience, urging her to step away from conventional salon culture and create something that uplifted both people and the planet.

Today, Abbey stands as a leader of quiet revolution. Her mission is to show every individual that beauty is not a commodity, but a reflection of inner worth – something to be reclaimed, nurtured, and celebrated. She believes that true change comes when we each choose to trade differently, to build businesses that serve communities rather than exploit them, and to treat every human being as the rare gift they are.
